Society's celebrity worship culture
Has society's "celebrity worship" culture gotten worse over the years or are advertisers losing the social media plot? I think Ronaldo is a great footballer but i'm not going to buy a product just because i see it on his insta page. I suppose there is something to be said about creating brand awareness with his 113 million followers but still, i'm sure there are better uses of money out there.
It's not just Ronaldo though. He's the 3rd highest paid celebrity on Instagram, coming in behind Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian. Are there many people out there who want to be like Kim K? Really?
The average teacher in the U.S. makes around $56,000 per year; the average nurse makes around $68,000 per year. After working a lifetime, they would probably still have made less than a celebrity's insta page did in one year. No wonder there are so many people trying to be "insta-famous" these days.
