According to new research out of Germany, breaking into the top 3% of YouTube channels will earn you only about $16,800 per year in advertising revenue. To get into the top 3%, you need at least 1.3 million views per month and you'll make enough just to stay above the poverty line.
According to a poll of British children aged between six and seventeen years old, one in three wanted to become a full-time "youtuber". That's almost three times the number who wanted to become a doctor or nurse. I hope they know what they're in for.
Their aim should be to become the top 1% of youtubers, who get between 2 - 42 million views per month. These superstars also don't rely solely on advertising revenue alone, instead supplementing with side money like sponsorships.
There's nothing stopping content creators from uploading their videos to both channels. Given how much more DTube pays out, it would be silly for those not in the top 1% of youtubers to ignore DTube. There's no competition for ad dollars between the platforms so both could continue to do well , feeding off each other. If nothing else, DTube is really good influencer marketing for steem.
Would it be great to have these YouTubers bring their following over to DTube and the steem platform? Sure it would. But i doubt that it would raise the price of steem by much unless they all start buying steem/SBD off the markets and start powering up. This hasn't happened so far and i wouldn't count on it.
In any case, being able to earn a little from the videos i post is more than enough for me.
