Good God, GE! From being the most valuable company in the world less than 20 years ago to potentially facing a break-up / bankruptcy. How the times have changed.
If you think about it, pretty much the entire Jeff Immelt tenure has been one disaster after another. And yet, despite being absolute shite, he got a $200 million retirement deal. At least that's what it was worth during the time.
If there's a lesson in this story, it is to always go into management. The professional manager gets a lot of rewards but doesn't share in the risk. Specializing in a skill is rarely worth it unless you set up your own company and have bargaining power.
As for my own GE shares, looks like i'll be holding on to them for a little longer yet.
