COB
This great man is my personality of the month. After reading the story of this great man, I could only refer to it as “ABILITY IN DISABILITY” Nature itself presents him an excuse to fail but he didn’t take it. He could have just sat down and let the world pity him; instead he stood up and refused to be pitied. He had an option, he could have sat down and said ‘Nature is unfair to me.’ he could have said ‘Nature is against me.’ he could have said ‘God does not love me; he didn’t give me a fair chance like the rest.’ You know the list of his excuse could have gone on and on. This brings me to my first lesson.
LESSON ONE: IT IS ALL IN THE MIND
If you believe you can, you definitely will, and if you believe you can’t, you never will. Every great man out there have an excuse, they all have reasons to back down, they all have reasons to step back and let others walk that path of greatness, they all have reasons to stay down but they didn’t. They choose to stand up, they choose to dream and believe in their dreams, they aim to soar higher like an eagle and they did. Let me bring this to your notice, it is not what others think about you, it is not what others believe you can or can’t that matters, It is what you think and believe that matters. It is all about you. Cobhams have many excuses to fail and back down but he has only one excuse to stand up and that is “I can.” I came across this while reading about Cobhams. “ I (had to) sleep on studio floors all across Lagos, worked at different studios, worked without pay, I’ve been out on the road, out on the streets, doing my thing.”
“I had to convince people that I could do it. I had sessions that were cancelled because they weren’t sure I could deliver either because they thought I was too young or may be because as a blind person. ‘How do we trust our music which is our future and investment?’ This brings me to my second lesson;
LESSON TWO: THE ROAD IS NOT SMOOTH
My dear if I have a way to massage these words to please you, I would, but there isn’t. Whether you believe it or not, the truth is, “it won’t be easy.” The road is not smooth and sometimes it will seem mountains are crushing you. I once heard a man say "If you look at your whole body, you will realize that all parts are smooth except for two parts which are your knee and your elbow. They are not there for fancy. When things get difficult, bring your knees to the ground and pray and when your knees begin to hurt you, support it with your elbow."
LESSON THREE: LOVE YOUR SELF
You have to love yourself, No matter the point of success you attain you will look miserable if you don’t love yourself. No matter the complexion, stature or disability, please love yourself. If you don’t love yourself, you will find it difficult to believe that people love you. On 2nd of December 2010 COBHAMS EMMANUEL ASUQUO got married to OJUOLOPE VERONICA OLUKANNI. “Life just as they say is not black and white. It is a mixture of many beautiful colours and it will present itself to you just as the way you view it irrespective of your social status. No matter what comes your way always see life as being beautiful, because sometimes the hope you need lies in these three words “LIFE IS BEAUTIFUL.”
