... what advantage does STEEM have as a blogging platform?
It is my feeling that the blogging nature of STEEM offers something that no other blockchain had offered; our own bitcointalk.org if you will. It gave the community a means to communicate among one another. A means to put personalities to hash addresses. A means to shape and evolve the project in an internal manner.
Although it is, and was, being sold as a blogging platform it is by and large internal communication in my opinion. Just look at the predominance of navel gazing in most of the posts to prove this point.
Yet blogging gave the chain its launch however much it has evolved since then. It is slowly evolving from being that one trick blogging pony as dApps begin to supplant blogging activity. Before our very eyes STEEM is changing from a currency token to a utilitarian one.
The excitement of being part of that evolution is what keeps me here. Let's take @themarkymark as a case in point.
Not long after getting active on the blockchain @themarkymark received my support as witness. In time it came to my understanding that he also was running a bot voting business which was something that had my strong opposition. At that point we had a series of debates on the subject and eventually my support for him as a witness was withdrawn. Since then with the release of HF21 the bot voting business has not proved profitable. He is no longer in that business and if a witness vote of mine becomes available he is a likely candidate.
During that period of our disagreement it was hard to imagine there not being voting bots. Yet here we are. What a wonderfully evolving project this is!
If you can't write about it, or think of ways to change it for the better and feel excited to be part of the community that is bringing the world a refined blockchain governance of Delegated Proof of Stake then maybe you should cash in your chips.
If on the other hand the project means more to you than financial rewards then stick around and help shape this technology into a useful tool to change the world.
