Geez, how do I go about it—I ask myself, can I formulate a learned opinion on hive yet? It’s been more than four months I’m here and while I don’t think I’m a new member anymore—I also do not feel integrated enough. But isn’t that part of the problem?
I’ve been moaning about the social aspects of hive but let’s get into that a bit later. This is an entry to the contest Share your thoughts on HIVE of late & WIN THE POST EARNINGS!
The hive of late is actually hive of present for me. When I first joined, hive token's price was about 22-23c. Now it’s half that and all the predictions I’ve heard from the friends (the ones I made these months) about the rebounce of hive’s price has been only that, predictions.
But some of those friends possess a deep understanding of the crypto space and I’ve learned about (being a crypto-ignorant) a few elements that play roles in determining the price. General hype, buying more hive, not siphoning resources, and of course meaningful projects that bring values to the platform.
I’ve seen how disappointed people have been over the last hard fork, which still haunts us with its bugs. I’ve been told by reliable people that a hard-fork shouldn’t be this messy, no matter how great the feat is.
Now, I may be a crypto noob but I understand value. What should bring new investors to this platform when it can’t handle a HF smoothly?
I’m not complaining, I’m only wondering. If I’ve understood this incorrectly, please feel free to point me in the right direction.
Lower price has surely been a factor but I think many people have been demotivated because of the incessant bugs and node problems. It’s not fun fumbling around nodes, login methods and even past all that, failing to make a comment or a post.
Horrible user experience over the past few weeks.
I’ve been a facebook user for more than 10 years and I came to hive with an intention to leave behind that addictive platform. With the lapse of hive, a few minutes now, a few minutes then, I’ve again got back on facebook (sigh) but this lapse helped some things to fall into perspective.
What keeps people active on facebook? Because facebook added a myriad of things and let people to meddle with and they keep adding more of it. People also seek validity, assurance and they do get those on there. The ones who have been very active, put effort into what they’re doing, get attention and support from other people all over (ahem! Some would say I’m one of them, but I humbly refuse to admit that!!).
People don’t only chat and mess around on facebook, you know. The ones who use the platform to write big specialized posts on books, art, life, personal stuff, online activism or anything else perhaps do not make money directly but they get back the value in form of recognition, fame, exposure.
Otherwise, I don’t think they’d keep doing it.
Incentives come in many forms, not only money. And without incentives, nothing goes anywhere.
I think even hive has a few examples like the engagement community along with the engagement league where they don’t give out money as incentives—rather fame and exposition and a chance of having a good time.
My wish for hive is that quality posts should get more attention and curators should read the damn post before voting. Why am I suddenly saying this?
The way I see it is that — quality posts usually attract engagement. And voting such posts will give attract more people to up their game, thus increasing engagement more.
Blindly voting on any post will, on the other hand, discourage the ones who are going the extra mile.
Also a post about crypto might be very cool but the truth is, no one really talks about crypto at the dinner table. To succeed as a social media, social stuff should get more attention.
You want to attract investors to hive? Do more fancy crypto projects.
You want more users on hive to succeed as a social media? Show them you’re having fun.
