True Story

This would have been my entry to @terrycraft's Steemit Poetry Contest, but its central idea flat out refused to fit the requisite theme of freedom and it disqualified itself. That's a sort of freedom, right? No? Yeah, I didn't think so, I'll just wait for the next one. I'm posting this anyway, but really, go check out the competition.

Your brain is teeming
With anticipation and delight.
Its time for some steeming
So you load up the site.

In the feed there you see it
A new contest is waiting.
You are compelled to submit
But your focus is waning.

Puppies and kitties and their cute little faces,
You're distracted and you've forgotten intent.
Your eyes move on to new places
Oh, Curse you, I say, you damned Internet!
