Yeah, this movie is very much tailored to American (and Canadian) culture, and being set in a time more than 80 years ago probably makes it a little harder to translate well for overseas audiences. I imagine it's a little like how British comedies like Monty Python or Red Dwarf never get fully embraced by the majority of Americans and remains to this day more of a cult favorite appreciated by an enlightened minority. 😁
I never really considered friction to heat up the bar, but unless he has a power sanding tool I imagine it'd take forever. If you've ever tried making a campfire solely using wooden sticks and friction you know EXACTLY what I mean!
