You're not alone. I remember during Spring Break trips to Hawaii (a time-honored way for Alaskans to blow their yearly Alaska Permanent Fund dividend checks!) hearing that sound all the time, but just assumed it was birds. Most of the times we came across geckos they either didn't make noise or I assume their noises were mixed in with all the other outside noises.
