Bards can... their spells are cast by singing and playing music, instead of chanting nonsense words and wiggling their hands around like wizards. In this case, it was a Mass Suggestion spell, allowing one to suggest a (halfway reasonable) course of action to the victims. So he couldn't tell the giants to fight each other to the death, but suggesting they forget what they saw and take a nap is perfectly kosher.

Had to look the controversy up; seems they're not fans of the mask & lockdown & jab mandates (which IMO is understandable), but they made the mistake of linking to an anti-mask, anti-jab mandate rant done by a guy who turned out to be a neo-Nazi of sorts. Given they retracted it I'm gonna go with Hanlon's razor and guess it was a dumb but honest mistake, but still there's a lesson there that you gotta be careful these days what links you promote! 😳
