The presence of guns does make the average US cop's job more dangerous than in the UK, but the level of danger is often exaggerated. Farmers, truck drivers, and groundskeepers are ranked as being more dangerous jobs than police work. While I agree policing is a tough job overall (stress and having to interact with terrible people), but IMO 80% of the "dangerous work" narrative is simply propaganda pushed by police unions to avoid responsibility & accountability. That and it perpetuates the "us vs. them" mindset in the police, which is bad for everyone.
