There is a bit of a misconception that the nicer places are safer, and as you point out that's not always the case. The one advantage most fast food places have is that the food preparation areas are in view of the customer, which tends to discourage thoughts of messing with food. But the sit-down chain restaurants and even many "nicer" independent restaurants?.... you pretty much have to trust them completely. And yes absolutely, the first step in that trust being built is by not being a turd to the people serving or making your food! 😏
