One of the big problems with the US system is that the skill sets to RUN for office and successfully get elected and the skill sets to actually DO THE JOB are very different, and it's rare for a person to have strong talents in both. And so it's all too common to either have presidents who are just empty suits that are a puppet for special interests, or presidents with persuasion skills but no principles or talent for governing.
It IS frustrating, and I have no love for the twit. But over time it has become just as frustrating to see his opposition (most of it, anyway) in politics and the media fumble the ball over and over again. So we've got obnoxious, blatant corporatism & authoritarianism on one side and shrill, virtue-signaling incompetence on the other. In US politics there is a lot to vote AGAINST, but very little worth voting FOR. Just my opinion, anyway.
