Creativity in Times of Crisis

Hello to all friends of Steemit today I want to talk to you about the creativity we all want to have, but I can tell you that this is a skill that is innate in every human being, but one of us develops it more than others. We have this ability mostly since we were children and when we don't stimulate it we don't develop it and with time we lose it and we become more logical and closed-minded, although it's never too late to activate it.

What is Creativity:

It is the capacity that everyone has to create, invent or innovate. It is the original and imaginative thought that generates a new idea or builds a new concept through divergent thinking, which leads to new conclusions, solves problems and produces original and valuable solutions.

What is Divergent Thinking:

Divergent thinking is a thought process or method used to generate creative ideas by exploring many possible solutions. It is often used in conjunction with its cognitive colleague, convergent thinking, which follows a particular set of logical steps to arrive at one solution, which in some cases is a "correct" solution. By contrast, divergent thinking typically occurs in a spontaneous, free-flowing, "non-linear" manner, such that many ideas are generated in an emergent cognitive fashion. Many possible solutions are explored in a short amount of time, and unexpected connections are drawn. After the process of divergent thinking has been completed, ideas and information are organized and structured using convergent thinking. Source

What is Convergent Thinking:

Is defined as the process of finding the single best solution to a problem or question, such as arriving at the answer to a multiple choice question or figuring out how to program your VCR. Coined by J. P. Guilford in 1950, convergent thinking is a process that seeks out the right or best possible solution from many possibilities. Some types of questions that require convergent thinking are multiple choice tests, logic puzzles, and text comprehension questions. Convergent thinking questions often require the subject to resolve, explain, identify, or define. Source

Many of us do not know what is divergent thinking and convergent thinking, but I can tell you in a simple way that divergent thinking is the one that generates a quantity of ideas and is responsible for creativity, and converging thinking is the one in charge of organizing those ideas and defining the final response, it is logical thinking.

We all have creativity, although some of us develop it more than others, for some it is easier, but we do not underestimate anyone, because it can be developed at the most critical moment of their lives. Creativity does not depend on a person's IQ, but on their personality traits. According to studies it is said that the human brain has two hemispheres with different functions among them, it is said that the hemisphere responsible for creativity is the right hemisphere, although there are other studies that say that creativity is born from the connection between the two hemispheres.

Developing Creativity in Times of Crisis

The moments of crisis of a country or a person always mean a change, an evolution, when the human being is in his most critical state has to make a decision to reinvent himself and it is there that his creative part is activated because that is when his right hemisphere begins to work and to generate new ideas and create different solutions to his problem. The great inventions, discoveries and works were created at this time, because a critical problem needed to be solved and to improve it, an idea had to be created to solve it. Therefore, the crisis is the opportunity for a person to transcend, to take a step further than he or she is. When we are in this situation, creativity is what will allow us to adapt to changes. Maybe you think you don't have any creativity, because I can tell you that it is in your mind and it is only up to you to put that machinery to work and work for your benefit. Just look around and think that everything you see is the product of an idea that a person had to solve a problem or to improve something. If you're reading this post right now, think that thanks to whoever created the computers you can do what you're doing today, before it came true it was first in someone's mind. In short, I can say that in times of crisis the best ally is creativity.

All these inventions were products of a creative mind, which had the ability to find a solution to a problem and which are used today and others devised new concepts that have improved these creations as is evident in the case of the phone, its evolution allowed the creation of the cell phone that is currently used by millions of people.

I imagine that after reading this post you will want to develop the right hemisphere, but as I mentioned before it is important to develop both hemispheres because depending on their connection will allow you to have a better creativity.

How to Stimulate Both Brain Hemispheres

I read on one page 5 exercises that I found interesting, simple but important for the development of both hemispheres:

1. Cross March: You touch the right knee with your left hand and then the left knee with your right hand. You can do it standing, sitting or lying down. You can also change the exercise by touching the tip of each foot with your hand.

2. Geometric Figures: Draw a square in the air with your right hand, 10 times. Then you draw a triangle in the air with your left hand, another 10 times. Finally you perform both movements at the same time.

3. Writing or drawing: You can draw continuous circles with your left hand, if you are right-handed, and then draw with both hands at the same time. You can also paint a picture with your least used hand. Also, try writing with your left hand, from left to right and vice versa. Then you do it with your right hand the same way.

4. Conscious movements: All day long, use the least skilled hand. Do all daily activities with that hand, such as opening the pipe, combing your hair, etc.

5. The NASA game: You should write the entire alphabet in capital letters on a large piece of paper, so that there are no more than 6 letters per line. Under each capital letter, place randomly "i" (left), "j" (together) or "d" (right). To start the game, you have to stand in front of the alphabet and begin to say each letter out loud in capital letters, you raise the left "i", right "d" or both "j" arms sideways, according to the letter under each capital letter. If you're wrong, you have to start over. Then play the game starting with the letter Z. When you master this stage, make other moves. When raising the right arm you will also have to open the left leg, if you raise the left arm you must open the right leg and if you raise both arms you must separate both legs.
