The past two days have been quite challenging. I have found it difficult to articulate my thoughts, mainly because I haven't had the time to be alone and think.

There is so much on my plate and I am trying to resolve them one after the other. I thought to write this post to inform the anonymous donor. you read my post and saw it fit to support (even when I did not ask--still not asking).

So I had to visit my mum and siblings at our place in Lagos to resolve several issues: a runaway tenant; his dead wife and four kids; his uncooperative relatives; and a plethora of (potential) paperwork.

As advised by an anonymous donor, I reached out to the relatives hoping a little pressure would force their hands to take the kids. While I was on my long journey home I asked my mum to visit the police station to make a report and also contact relevant authorities on the matter.

I reached out to the general secretary of social workers (via blezyn@blezyn) and she advised me to get a letter from the community leaders in my neighbourhood which should be submitted to the ministry in charge of issues relating to abandoned kids.

While my mum was at the police station, several calls were put to the relatives but nothing came out of it. One even suggested that we take the kids to the orphanage.

Even after pressure from the police and the personnel at the human rights office, nothing came out of these discussions. The relatives did not want to assume responsibility for the kids or their late mother.

It was quite disheartening but at this point, it felt like the only option was to move the kids to a shelter where they will be catered for appropriately. There was no point waiting on relatives that were indifferent about the kids' plight.

I reached out to the community leaders. They requested I confirm my tenant's wife's death at the hospital before they could proceed because we were just working on hearsay before now.

I went to the hospital to check her status yesterday morning and the wards confirmed that she was dead. I could not ask for many details because I am not family. I informed the relatives about her death and my plans to take the matter to the state level

They contacted me this evening saying they will be around tomorrow. I find it quite callous of them to show interest after the news of their in-law's death reached them. They had 2 weeks to do something but did nothing.

I don't think the relatives would take good care of the children. They have already shown disinterest in their welfare. I was thinking the safe shelter provided by the government would have been a better place but it is not in my place to decide.

At this point, there isn't much I can do but wait. I have done my part, so Jesus take the wheel! I can focus on other things while we work on providing the kids with a decent home. Cheers!
