If anyone is going to invest time and resources into getting this right, I'd like to suggest looking into the tagging system as well. Tags are meant to describe the actual content but of course people are forced to use community tags so their work can enter that community and qualify for their rewards.
I've always thought the simplest solution would be to allow for more tags, separated in two sections, one for descriptions and the other for functions. Descriptive tags show up under the post, function tags exist but work in the background and don't show up. Does not make any sense to me to see something like a travel post as example, with the word "PIMP" or "POB" etc down at the bottom and one would never hunt down travel posts as example by searching "PIMP". Outsider and even insiders look at that and don't know wtf to make of it. Seems pointless to have that on display, and not actual descriptive tags; descriptive tags that would help with content discovery.
Just throwing this idea out there as well. In my mind it makes sense to get everyone the same page somehow, then tie up these loose ends all in one shot. It's been several years now and we've not seen any advances in that department.
I agree token comments can be a nuisance. I personally mute them.
