The most simple way to describe a district is as a community or market. Think, for example, of websites like ebay, amazon, etc. These are communities as well as markets. You can post listings, rate users, transact between eachother, etc.
d0xINFRA provides districts with the core functionalities required to operate an online
market or community. Namely, the ability for users to post listings, filter and search
through listings, rank peers and amass reputation, and send invoices and collect
payments.
The d0xINFRA framework is designed to be open and extendable, allowing
districts to be customized and granted additional functionality through the use of auxiliary
modules.

The advantage district0x brings to this type of market is decentralization and allowing users to control the decisions of these communities and markets, whereas in the examples I listed above those companies are centralized and controlled by those in the company. So, with district0x, as long as you hold tokens you have some kind of say in the direction of the said district. I think of it as sort of like a decentralized company without the need for any middlemen taking a cut or selling anyone's data.
