Aloha! No I am not in the land of rainbow and love, Hawaii, this Holiday season but I wish I was. Instead I am on a mini vacation down in beautiful Sunny San Diego, California. This is the first Holiday Season that I not only did not celebrate on a religious level but on a secular one either. I did not purchase any gifts and I do not anticipate receiving any. But that’s neither here nor there because Christmas Day is tomorrow and the festivities will be in full swing in the western world around me.
I came across an interesting article from the Jamaica Observer titled, “Artificial Intelligence and Christmas.” You know I had to stop and read it especially after my article I wrote last month on “God as a Bot.” Let’s discuss the key points made in the article and answer the questions the author, Derrick Aarons, asked at the end of the article.

- In light of this reality, therefore, some have been proposing that artificial intelligence may well present an alternative to organised religion. This possible role has recently emerged through the expansive effects of technology and its applications.
- In this respect, they argue that religion and science actually converge conceptually in this singular mission. So, they state that God, if he exists as the most powerful of all singular entities, already has pure organised intelligence, which is an intelligence that spans the universe, including the sub-atomic manipulation of physics.
- So, what are your thoughts on this? Can artificial intelligence that is programmed and focused on serving Christian causes such as serving others, helping the needy and down-trodden, spreading the gospel, and raising awareness around moral issues, be accepted by Christians as a worthwhile medium for doing the will of Christ?
My main thought on this is that we must understand why religion and spirituality are such hot topics for humans. I truly believe that spirituality is our way of not only connecting with the God within but the world around us; be it nature, animals, the sun, moon, stars, and other humans. Artificial Intelligence, which I think is super cool by the way, is truly nothing more than calculated algorithm based manmade computer programs. While they can help humans be more efficient in community outreach and spreading love and light during any time of the year, I do not think they can, should, or will replace the beauty of being a spiritual being having a human experience.
Perfection should not be the goal of anyone who practices an organized religion or spirituality as a whole. Until we redefine perfect as “divine order and timing,” we will always live perfectly imperfect lives. And now that I think about it, that is what makes life worth living; the perfectly imperfect surprises and detours that life brings.
