It's surprising to see how humans behave. I have heard a lot of times that experience is the best teacher, but then, I also feel that people should learn from the experiences of others without allowing similar things to happen to them; it's an error.
Some of the practical life experiences people share or we observe people go through should teach us lessons so we can play safe and never go the same route to feel pain, and if it's an experience of success, it will shorten our journey with less stress before we achieve our own success.
Without further ado, something happened to my husband two years ago. It was on the first day of January, a new year welcome pack, lol. We spent our January first in the hospital with my husband crying like a baby. I can't forget the experience in a hurry because I journeyed with him all through. He is this kind of person who is always cleaning his ears using a cotton bud. It's a habit he practises every single day.
I could buy packs of cutting bud weekly, and he finishes them in a hurry. He can use 6-7 sticks per cleaning, and that's how bad it is. Each time he cleans, he removes those oily parts of the ear called 'wax' without knowing that he is gradually exposing the ear. That faithful day, he started having excruciating pains in his ears nonstop. We tried using all manner of ear drops, all to no avail.
The pain was as if he was in labour pain for a woman who wanted to give birth. How we catapulted ourselves to an ENT doctor was a story for another day. The doctor asked him several questions and discovered that his habit of using a cotton bud was the cause of his problem. He already removed all the wax that was supposed to protect his inner ear and gave room for bacteria to breed. He was taken inside a room for a procedure in his ears that lasted for a few hours.
After which, we were discharged from the hospital with some meds and a strict warning never to use a cutting bud in the name of cleaning our ears. I returned home that day and lectured everyone in my home that the era of using cotton buds to clean our ears in this house is over. I trashed all the remaining cutting buds and never bothered to buy them again.
Only for me to see myself buying cotton buds again this year, using them to clean my ears back-to-back. How did I forget in a hurry the pain my husband passed through just two years ago? How did I quickly forget the instructions from an ENT doctor? I couldn't sleep last night. Ear pain is dealing with me; I feel so uncomfortable, and my husband has been scolding me for allowing the same thing he went through to happen to me.
In his words, he said his own experience should have been a lesson to me. It's enough, but then I chose to ignore it until I experienced the pain firsthand. Maybe I will learn better."
