Hello guys…. Last week I started this series to talk about the phobias I have of certain living things.
Each of the experiences that led to these phobias were pretty dramatic and if you read through them all, you really wouldn’t blame me for suddenly developing fear or dislike for certain animals.
To catch up on the gist so far, you can check my profile for part 1 to 3 of the Live aversion series.
This post however marks the end of my phobia gists.
Today is all about birds!
Ornithophobia- The fear of Birds.
Before I go into whatever fear I’m about to talk about, I would like to say birds are great!
I love them so much. They look so innocent, elegant and most of all beautiful!
Some birds however are just something else. Example is the local fowl/chicken.
The local fowl in my area look pretty harmless. They move about in search for food while minding their own business most of the time.
I never thought anything special of them and I didn’t even know they were birds initially. Well, that’s the importance of education.
Later on in my teenage years, I realized fowl isn’t as harmless as they look especially the ones that just finished hatching their eggs. They suddenly become paranoid and chases anyone or anything that comes close.
They keep up with this attitude until their little chick have grown to a certain age. The mother hen chased me several times until it got to me never to go anywhere near hens or even think of chasing them. When they’re blocking the way, I just respect myself and patiently wait for the hen and chicks to leave before I pass through.
Hen has chased and pecked me several times. Their chase is often fierce and it's pretty embarrasing to run from those little animals so I've learnt and practiced this respect of space for a long time now.
I thought this behaiviour was only peculiar to the mother hen until of course one weird cock proved otherwise. This cock was very matured and big. It was obvious that it was very advanced in age. I wasn’t scared of it cos it didn’t have any chick to protect and didn’t need to be aggressive but I was wrong.
I was sweeping the front of my room, when this big cock came around. I looked up and started chasing it and threatening it with the broom I was holding.
To my surprise, this cock turned around and chased me!.. What?! I was really stunned. I started running even though I wasn’t sure of what was going on. I kept looking back to confirm that I wasn’t just being paranoid. In the middle of my race, I fell to the ground and wounded myself. Only then did the cock turn and walked away. I was just frustrated and embarrassed. "What's all these?!" I thought to myself. I dusted myself and went into my room with the little dignity I have left. I cleaned myself up and decided from that day that not only mother hen but old cocks too have their own madness.
Even as I'm typing this, I still have phobia for mother hen and old cocks.
When I see them, I respect myself and keep my distance.
Fowl is the only bird I’ve had a bad encounter with. Hence, the only bird I fear.
Have you had any experience with other birds? Let me know what you think in the comment section
Thanks so much for reading through and for your continuous support as always.
See you in the next post!
