What is springrole?
Springrole is a Blockchain powered professional profile verification and attestation protocol. The value of a social network, like LinkedIn, is derived from the individuals that use the network. The users of the network lend their value to the platform – without them, the platform cannot thrive. Most platforms are free of charge for users with revenue streams from advertisements or services that monetize user data. That said, users who often spend time on the platform curating their profile and adding valuable content receive almost no share of the monetary benefit, which instead accrues to the corporate sponsor (e.g., LinkedIn). User data drives the value of the platform without the user being fairly rewarded for their respective data. Moreover, since networks like LinkedIn host professional profiles of businesses and individuals, incentivizing participation is key as it increases the value of the business and ultimately the platform. Resumes are typically the first point of contact that potential employers have with candidates. They contain the key facets that we would like to showcase about our professional profile. Resumes are essential and will likely continue to hold weight for the foreseeable future.
What is an attestation?
Claims made by a candidate have to be verified by the parties that possess the information to verify it. For example, a candidate mentions going to a particular university – the information required to verify it rests only with the university. Hence, the university has to attest the information that is provided – with an implicit trust in the fact that the university executed the required due diligence before attesting. It is a combination of such attestations that completes the reference checks needed for a candidate. These attestations can be varied – they could involve schools, colleges, and even specific individuals.
Reputation systems are essential in platforms where parties must trust each other to act in good faith and perform work reliably. Current reputation sources are flat and have little or no weight adjustment for the raterʼs expertise. We believe reputation technology needs to be weighted according to the skill of the person making the attestation. For example, the impact of Aliceʼs attestation that Bob possesses a given skill should be based on the reputation and skill level of Alice for that skill.
Freelancing Opportunities: Additional functionalities might include the ability for companies to search among users in the platform, filter and search for candidates based on a particular skill and even a particular skill level. The ultimate goal is for the Spring network to create efficiencies from both the recruiting and job seeking perspective. Companies can post freelance projects on the job board on the Spring network with a reward in SPRING tokens. Job seekers can seek such opportunities and sign a smart contract with the company. Once the project is completed or the terms of the contract are met, the parties can exchange the work done for the respective reward. Thus using the combination of smart contracts and the reputation system in the Spring network, it is possible to have transparent and decentralized freelancing opportunities powered on the blockchain.
Project Team:
SpringRole was founded by Kartik Mandaville in 2014 while he was a graduate student of the Languages Technologies Institute, School of Computer Science, Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh. Kartik had a vision to disrupt the recruiting industry using advances in artificial intelligence. Over the course of three years, SpringRole has built a profitable business with a growing user base and six figures in annual revenue.

The Spring network is designed to promote trust among people and companies. We are building an attestation system powered by the use of public ledger and reputation scores. This complements the fact that a clear attestation system is required to authenticate the validity of a resume. Equally important is to design a protocol that is robust and easily scalable – attesting and verifying claims should be intuitive. The below architecture diagram helps elaborate on the concept. Project Spring Foundation is building the Spring network from the ground up, while considering all stakeholders. Users are fairly incentivized with SPRING as are attesters, ultimately providing a highly useful and validated resource for recruiters and prospective employers, partners and others. In fact, by fairly incentivizing users, users are always the central focus of the network.
