I'm a games person, especially cards and certain board games. Recently I have been playing a lot of cribbage. I have also been showing others how to play and reminding former players of the rules. We've built up quite a little community of cribbage players. I'd say at least a dozen players now.
Anyway, one of the players that I showed how to play is @mangomayhem. He took to the game like a duck takes to water.
He contacts me almost every day wanting to play cribbage. Well yesterday, 17 July, he came by my house to help me with some of The Hive.
His price for assisting me was for me to go by Mango and play cribbage. Okay, I can afford to do that.
We ended up playing 15 games of cribbage.
The thing is though I skunked him the first 3 games, giving me 6 games (skunks count double game, double skunks count four games). But you wouldn't you know it; he skunked me the next 2 games.
After that I believe we each one a game and then he skunked me again. So now that is 3 games each that we were skunked. I rarely get skunked in cribbage. I guess all those times caught up with me for that day.
We had one game where I need 7 points to win the game. I was going to be 1 point short. It was his turn to count first and when he counted his points, he missed one. In cribbage, if your opponent misses points you can steal them. You just have to wait until they pegged their points and then say "Muggings". Because he missed that 1 point (and I got it) I ended up having just enough points to win.
We continued on until, counting the skunks, I had 13 wins and he had 8. That's 15 games with 6 of those being skunks.
We were both getting so tired, and it was getting dark. I had ordered some food to go and right as we finished the last game, the food arrived.
He is learning to count faster, although he counts the long way, as far as I can tell. He doesn't miss near as many points as he normally does these days.
I'm thinking of teaching him to play Euchre next. I just have to remember how to play it again myself first. I don't remember it being a hard game though.
Anyway, that was our long cribbage day. I think it was about 2:00 pm when I went over there and when I arrived back home it was 7:00 pm.
