When having access to my full deck, the vast majority of the time when I play with the Dragon splinter I use the Delwyn Dragonscale summoner which adds 1 to magic attacks. I then pair the Dragon splinter with one that has many cards with a strong magic attack. This usually ends up being Water, Earth or Death. However, I am currently renting out my Delwyn Dragonscale summoners and do not chose to play the dragon splinter very often.
Today I got a match with ruleset “Summoners do not give any stat buffs or debuffs’’ and “Only monsters with even Mana costs may be used in battles”. The mana cap for the battle was 30. So I thought it would be a good time to use the dragon summoner Kretch Tallevor which does not provide any buffs but costs only 3 mana. What I didn’t realize at first was that 3 mana coupled with only being allowed to use even number cards would result in me only being able to use 29/30 of the available mana. Thus I could have used a 4 mana card and it would have made no difference.
Water and life were my only choices for splinters to combine with Dragon. I chose Life because for higher mana matches overall it seems to be stronger than Water.
For my lineup, I started by chosing a tank with the Taunt ability. Behind the tank I placed several monsters with range attacks including one with tank heal. My biggest concern was that a couple of my ranged monsters had low healths of only 2. So lastly I put my Furious Chicken in position 2 in case my opponent had any blast monsters.

My opponent did not have the strongest team and I felt confident right away that I would win. They had a couple of Opportunity monsters so I was lucky to have a tank with Taunt. The two opportunity monsters could have taken out my chicken and two weak ranged monsters in a couple of rounds. Eventually I won the match.
Even though I won I do think I made a mistake by put putting my vulnerable monsters so close to the front when I had a tank with the Taunt ability. I now think I should have put the healer with level 4 health in third position. My monsters with 2 health would have been killed anyway before they could be healed.
