At the edge of a small forest, which is located near the river, there is a site where there are many small meadows. Various birds can often be found there. I was lucky today. There I saw a small flock of tits. They jumped on the ground slightly dusted with snow and with their beaks quickly turned over and threw back the fallen leaves of the trees.

It got colder today. Loose snow caught in frost, but there were some places not covered with snow. There the tits moved quickly and looked for food under the leaves. It was evident that they were hungry. They carefully examined the upside-down leaves for insects to eat.

Since it was already cold and the wind was blowing, they fluffed up their feathers and looked like funny balls.

Sometimes they climbed into the thickets of last year's green grass that stuck out from under the snow. They probably hoped that there were insects hiding there. They had to work hard to find food for themselves. Apparently worms and other animals have already hid from the frost. Finding them was not easy.

It was impossible to get closer to them. The snow crunched loudly on my feet and the birds scared and flew away. Therefore, we had to stand still for a long time and wait for them to approach themselves.

Sometimes the tits flew up to the trees and began to carefully examine the punishment on the tree trunks. Especially those places where punishment was connected to the ground. Apparently their natural instinct told them that there are more insects there.

Of course, it is much more difficult for birds to find food for themselves in winter. I often see in parks and squares how people bring different food for birds. Children often hang out feeders. This makes it easier for birds to survive the cold winter.

I often take seeds with me to put in bird feeders. Many birds are already accustomed to being fed and always waiting for the arrival of people. They know that people are helping them and are not afraid of them.

As long as there is little snow and the birds can find food on the ground. But when the ground is covered with a thick layer of snow, it will be difficult for them to find food. Therefore, the help of people will be very necessary for the birds.
