The poppy is a plant from the family of Papaveraceae and is annual. The plant can reach a height of around 80 cm.
The name poppy is derived from Papa (Latin) and means "(children's) pap". This is because the juice from this plant was previously used as a sleeping aid for small children.
The plant is a well-known symbol for the fallen soldiers in Flanders (Belgian) during the first world war.
