Yesterday I was heading to the hardware store and suddenly the bike was running on a single cylinder, not a good state of affairs on a V-twin motor. So, time to turn around, head back home and rummage in the toolbox for an old plug to put in until I could go and get a fresh set.

I was annoyed because I changed the plugs very recently and the rear cylinder always ends up with a fouled plug. Dropped another plug in and yes, it started, but with a clatter I hadn't heard before.
now what?
Freewheeled it down to the mechanic down the road who said "it's just a loose cam chain and nothing too serious, the bike is just getting older, like you". To which I replied that I was sticking to my plan of growing older disgracefully and we both laughed. I was advised to put a hotter sparkplug into the rear cylinder and for now, it's ok but I need to start saving for some major maintenance. Sigh....
