"YOUTH CRIME"
The topic for this week's featured edition is really worth writing about because this is what has greatly affected the world today. I really appreciate the 
The high rate of crime among youths is becoming alarming. Crime is now the order of the day, like it's now a normal thing in our so called civilized world. Everyday we see lots of abominable acts on social media committed by our youths ranging from robbery, cybercrime, kidnapping, ritual killings, even intimacy with animals amongst our ladies and so many of them. This has caused many to ask questions like;
Are we to blame our generation for being so exposed to technology? or our government? or are we to blame the lack of contentment that has affected the youths in one way or the other? or are we to blame our parents? or our circle of friends?
Below are a few factors that has contributed to the high rate of crime among youths and the solutions.
POOR PARENTING
It is often said that "Charity begins at home" most corrupt youths we have in the world today are products of poor parenting. Nowadays, the era of "sparing the rod and spoiling the child is gone" Children are no longer corrected with cane especially in schools for big men children and we forget that this has done more harm than good to our children who will one day turn out to be youths.
A child that will do evil will surely do evil no matter the parental care, Very correct! but most parents have failed to do their own part especially in this era where parents of nowadays are busy travelling from one country to the other, leaving for work as early as 5am when their kids are very much asleep and coming back in the night to meet them asleep too. No one can train your kids better than you as their parents would do but parents have left their kids in the hands of corrupt nannies because they feel the money to be made is more important than their kids.
This particular factor has filled our world today with corrupt youths who lacked good home training from their parents..
PEER PRESSURE
"Evil communication corrupts good manners they say" Most Youths have forgotten this proverb. We feel we are strong enough to roll with bad friends without being like them. But sadly, many youths today are into drugs, fraud and so many other illegal acts due to peer pressure from the circle of friends they keep. When your circle of friends are into such crime acts and you flow with them, one day you'll definitely want to be like them even without the so called pressure from these friends. Seeing them make big cash from what they do and living a comfortable life is enough alone to make you want to do what they are doing. Peer pressure has greatly added to the high increase of youths who are causing nuisance to our world today.
UNEMPLOYMENT
Many youths would have been very useful today if the rate of employment is high but sadly, our government has failed us. Most youths who have indulged in prostitution, scamming, kidnapping and ritual killing have graduated with good grades from the university but have found it very difficult to get a good paying job to take care of their needs and this has in turn put them into frustration and with no choice of commiting such crimes.
LACK OF CONTENTMENT
"Be content with what you have" should never be forgotten by any reasonable youth.
Most youths are not content with what they have, when intimidated by the big car another is driving going to any extent to be like that person comes into play. Social media has greatly affected us in this aspect especially "Instagram" where we see all manner of classy fashion, flashy cars, hairdos.. infact, any manner of showoff you want to see it's all there on Instagram. When some youths get to see all these everyday on social media, due to lack of contentment, they feel intimidated, like they are not doing well enough and so are pushed to engaging in some dirty doings that will give them money the fast way.
SOLUTIONS
Good child upbringing is highly needed by our parents. I believe the way I was brought up has helped me a lot in knowing when to do the right thing and when not to do the wrong things, it has served as a guide for me to know the difference between good and evil, although then I thought my parents were wicked but now I've come to realize that the morals which has been instilled in me right from childhood has helped me now in my youth. Parents should ensure they put in their best in training and guiding their children on the right way to go.
Associating with bad friends should be avoided by the good youths as "evil communication corrupts good manners" Personally, I don't flow with bad friends no matter how strong I think I am and this has saved me so many times.
In the aspect of unemployment, being patient with learning one skill or the other when jobs are not coming forth will help put food on the table and also solve some needs. Nowadays "skills pay the bills" so instead of youths to indulge in these crimes, acquiring a skill would help.
Every youth should learn how to be contented with whatever is available. If you can afford a motorcycle, go for it instead of going for a car when you know you can't afford it.
Also, anything that will make you feel like you're not doing well enough like your mates or make you feel intimidated, avoid it.
This will go a long way for the youths to avoid indulging in such crimes.
I believe these few solutions above can help reduce crime among youths as the high rate of crime cannot be put to an end but can only be reduced to a minimum level.
