Yesterday I went to PetCo to buy food for my ducks, and I could not avoid going to the section of genetically modified fish, with the Hope that fewer and fewer are for sale until it is simply prohibited.

I have always been against buying fishes that are genetically manipulated for commercial purposes because it seems unnecessary and disrespectful to genetics, but today I couldn't help and ended getting a Glofish, with the intention of saving it from that little box with little water and limited sources, these cute creatures that already have a fluorescent ancestor gene that gives them those beautiful colors, are genetically altered by this company to make them shine much more, and I also bought it because I saw two of them (females) dead, from what I understand the female gloFish request to die faster than the males in limited conditions as seen in this photo:

This genetic alteration in animals for commercial purposes seems super unnecessary to me.

As an aspiring genetic engineer talking about this is very contradictory, so I am not fighting for animal rights here, either human rights lol (just kidding), but I believe that there must be an ethic and avoid making unnecessary manipulations that do not contribute to the advancement of humanity, like alter the genes of animals/people/plants with a purpose that is not for development or solution of a vital problem. And even worse if it is only for commercial purposes like this case.

But I have it anyway and now it's safe.
