It's a terrible experience.
Ethereum is the anti Hive.
- Slow.
- Expensive.
- Unusable.
- Unfriendly.
- Unreadable.
I have tried my best to avoid it for the past four years but every so often you need to make a transaction with it and then the pain starts.
And yet people keep building projects onto it and expecting them to be successful.
It has the people but not the tools to actually make it work. Luckily a lot of the layer two solutions are making life easier but then i need to use it and the pain starts again.
Today is one of those days.
I was looking through my metamask tidying up my tokens and old assets to try and find some matic that had been misplaced. It should have been on the polygon network but binance withdrew it to the ethereum network instead.
Now i need to get it back to a normal network and make use of the tokens.
While i was there i found some Koinos as well that i had forgotten about. As that has no use to me it is time to swap it for something useful and put it to work.
In total there is about $500 of tokens on my account but there is a very small problem.
Or the biggest problem as far as Ethereum is concerned.
Gas fees.
The curse of Ethereum.
The first thing that i wanted to do was to swap Koinos for a popular token that can be found on multiple chains.
That cost me $7 to swap $400 and unfortunately all of the Eth that was in my wallet in one go. It was a bit silly of me to not pay attention to my balances but in fairness i am used to transactions that cost cents not dollars.
Now i need to swap other funds from Binance smart chain to Ethereum to pay the gas fees required to move funds from Ethereum to binance smart chain and polygon.
There is so much comfort to using hive that it's not even funny.
If people woke up and started building applications on a zero fee chain they wouldn't know what to do with all of their extra time and money since they wouldn't be wasting all of it on Ethereum and killing the users.
I will get all of my funds off Ethereum eventually but it is such a pain every time that i am forced to use it.
We really are spoiled on Hive and it only shows when we venture off the the more popular chains.
