Now he isn't one of those elegant works of art like messi or poised and perfect like Ronaldo. A racecar like Mbappe or a terrier like Suarez.
He is more like a wrecking ball that smashes whatever is in front of him and just breaks things until he is done.
Tall, strong and powerful it's not a pretty sight to watch him play the game but it's brutally effective.
This is one of my favourite clips when he just smashes into defenders and makes the goal.
His skill isn't on the ball or outragous goals. His skill is getting into the right positions. Overpowering defenders and getting the ball into the net.
There are all different types of striker and he isn't the prettiest player but he sure knows how to put the ball in the net and that is a skill worth a lot of money.
Already this season he has broken the 30 goal mark which is better than most top players across all premier league seasons and he is ahead of about 10 premier league teams just by himself. The numbers are outragous and he is only 22.
Most players have potential at this age but usually hit their prime in the mid to late 20's.
I grew up on the Ronaldo V Messi debate but unfortunatly those days are coming to an end with two retirements that cannot be far away.
Will we spend the next 10 years fighting about Mbappe V Haaland?
Skill and speed V brute force. Instead of natural talent V Hard work and determination.
Personally I can appreciate what he brings to the game as I love seing a bit of smash and grab. There is too much emphasis put on pretty football when it all comes down to winning the match.
I used to hate seeing United against Athletico Madrid but fuck me they kow how to win matches. So annoying to watch but brutally effective. Martinez was a great buy for United as he has that bit of filth in him and a will to win while i would pick Ramos to start on my team any day.
You don't have to like them to appreciate what they bring to the game and the fact that Guardiola bought Haaland shows that he has recognised a need for a bit more bite and a little bit less pretty if he wants to win Europe again.
There are very few players out there that can do what he is doing and none that are doing it to the same level and consistency.
He was a great buy for City and even though they are second in the league i wouldn't write them off this year or the next few years either.
