If you build it, will they come?

This has been a conversation for the past five years and still seems to be a big part of the conversation now.

What is the most important factor for success.

  • Development.
  • Users.
  • Marketing.
  • Usability.
  • Timing.
  • Utility.

What makes a project popular and drives mass adoption. Who is the most important part of the process that makes it happen.

Developers will tell you that they are the most important. Users will say that they know better what is needed and business people will tell you that it doesn't matter if you can't bring it to the masses.

They are all right and all wrong in my opinion. I don't think that any one factor will be the reason for success if you can't balance this with everything else.

I have seen so many great projects here built long before other chains had them and never become popular. The best of ideas that were put together but never grew because they were missing a part of this process.

We have the best devs in the world here but unless they have a business plan, marketing plan, growth targets, revenue stream. They inevitably fall away and get forgotten about.

Look at the two projects here that are seeing the greatest success. Splinterlands and leofinance.

What is the common link?

They have a full team of people with different skills. Sure they have top quality devs but they didn't just build a thing and throw it into the deep end.

They figured out a way to generate revenue from it and then they marketed what they have build and planned to expand it even further.

It's not enough to just build great projects. You need to show them off to the masses afterwards. You need them to generate money and you need them to keep developing.

It takes the full circle of input to create a success. If you can build that killer project then it needs a team to bring it out into the light and become popular. Market that popularity and go viral.

Neither is more important than the other but neither can work without the other also.
