Marriage is a journey, not a destination
Before, we were thought that marriage is a union between man and woman who have agreed to live together as husband and wife. This was the exact definition I was thought during my religious and moral education class in primary school. Today, marriage has a different meaning as people have started to embrace same gender marriages and what have you. But that’s not what we’re going to talk about today.
Marriage is hard. That’s the honest truth. Growing up, I saw how my parents lived and how they brought my siblings and I up in love and comfort. I wouldn’t say there weren’t bad day. There were so many bad days as well as good days but now that I think of it, my parents didn’t allow their quarrels get in the way of their lives with us. Whatever quarrel they had was between them and we never even found out about it as kids. But eventually, I know they settled their differences and moved on.
On to the question of the day, would I chose between love or money to be an important factor in marriage. I would say this question is subjective because we all view things differently and have different views on various topics. Using my parents as an example. We had love in the equation and we also had money. So yes, love and money are both important factors in marriage.
No one wants to marry a partner who’s not financially stable. No matter how much you love someone, If you’re not financially stable you’d grow to become a burden to them. This applies to both genders. Some ladies think it’s only required for a man to have money before marriage, sorry to bring you out of your fantasy dear lady but you should also work for your own money. It goes both ways- if you expect your man to be filthy rich you should also be filthy rich to compliment him. Don’t you think so?
Also, having money and no love will equally do no good to your marriage. You’d have all you want but deep within you, you wouldn’t be okay. It’s more like you’re somewhere you don’t feel accepted . You’d just be dying slowly inside. For me, marriage without love is a no no.
I believe love and money are important factors in marriage but other things come to play in this marriage scenario. Marriage can be very tricky. What works for one couple wouldn’t work for another. Personally, I think marriage with love and money but without communication, forgiveness and patience is a marriage of doom.
Marriage is all about communication , forgiveness , compromise and patience. Imagine being in a marriage where you’re unable to communicate well with your partner, you’d always have problems here and there which leads us to issue of forgiveness. We are all bound to make mistakes and that is why we are advised to marry a forgiving person because marriage in itself is a school and we learn everyday.
At this point, I think I’m saying a lot. 😂
To make things short, love and money are important in marriage but many more factors also come into play in such a situation. This is why I say this question is highly subjective.
