Everyone around the world uses money because we use money in our daily activities. We use money as a means of payment for goods and services, we receive money for the work we do or the things we sell and this shows us how important money is. All over the world, different currencies exist and each and every one of them hold some value in the market.
Gone were the days when our parents used to give us coins anytime we had to go to school. In my country Ghana, our currency then was a very strong ones, even the coins could get you a full meal and them some more. Now, thanks to technology some of these currencies are slowing disappearing from the system. To be honest, I don’t remember the last time I saw a two Ghana cedis note. It’s either it’s being taken out of the system to be replaced with the new coin or I have just not being using cash enough.
Technology has advanced so much that we don’t even use cash as much as we used to. Now, we are able to pay for anything just with a tap of the phone. It’s easier and safer for most of us as carry huge sums of money can even serve as a risk to you as an individual. Majority of us now always expect to pay electronically anytime we want to purchase something and we tend to get the shock when we meet people who only accept cash. I remember asking a shop owner why she was still accepting cash only when everyone was going electronic. She told me she wasn’t educated and so she didn’t know her way around mobile devices. She additionally a narration of how she was ripped off by some of her customers who supposedly sent her money via a mobile app which was actually false.
This is to say that, everyone is seeing the changes going on around us with regard to technology and money. But not all of us are well equipped to navigate these waters. Some of our older parents have no means of understanding how electronic banking works and this deficiency subjects them loses which could have been prevented. The idea of going electronic when it comes to money and transactions is a great thing, but is everyone ready for that shift? The answer is no.
Let’s not be that selfish. I believe electronic banking and physical means of payment can coexist in world that we live in. Maybe as time goes on,we can slowly start to go fully electronic. But I know it will take some time to get all ready and on board.
