Since I became a follower of Jesus around 16 years ago, I have always loved reading the Bible, and learning about God and his plan and purpose for our lives. I'm also fascinated by biographies of men and women who have given all to follow Jesus, and stories of miracles and healings.
One of the things I've always longed to learn more about was around discerning God's voice and how to hear from God. The Bible lays out God's will and purpose for our lives and records how God has dealt with his people through history, and his story of salvation through Jesus and building a relationship with his people throughout history, but does God still speak to us today?
God still speaks today
Whether from personal experience or through the experience of those around me who I know and trust I know God still speaks today. I know at least three people who started following Jesus after vivid visions or dreams where Jesus appeared to them, and one of them is my wife.
I read a book recently called Surprised by the Voice of God: How God Speaks Today Through Prophecies, Dreams, and Visions, by Jack Deere. I highly recommend it to anyone who is curious about whether God still speaks to people today. There are countless examples from the author's own life and throughout recent history where God spoke through audible voices, visions, dreams, impressions and thoughts. Many of those words and prophetic visions have later turned out exactly as the recipients of these divine revelations declared earlier.
So if you are a follower of Jesus, you can ask God to help you understand and discern his voice more, and be open to new ways that God might be wanting to speak to you. And if you are just curious about the Christian faith, I'd be happy to try answer any questions you may have.
