Ahead of a this morning protest inside the US Capitol, police approached a credentialed journalist outside the U.S. Capitol and informed him that tripods are illegal on Capitol grounds, even if collapsed and used as a tripod. The rule is apparently only enforceable if the tripod touches the ground itself, so the officer would only allow the journalist to continue using the steadying device if he used his own shoes as a platform.
