I have been on a few over the years. My Dad was even a sailor in the English Royal Navy as young man. He and Mum did the long voyage to emigrate to Australia. They were on a Ship called the "fairsky" I did a cruise around the south pacific on the "fairstar" I took the photo of Sydney Harbour Bridge with Green Peace's Rainbow Warrior from the fairstar, as we were about to leave. I do not think I knew much about the Rainbow Warrior at the time, but it was about to become famous. I still find it hard to believe that the French Government actually organised a covert operation to plant a mine and sink the vessel in Auckland Harbour. I am sure they we pissed off at green peace for protesting in the south pacific while they were trying to test nuclear weapons. Now just seems so crazy that they were even doing it and even thought they would get away with trying to sink the little Green Peace ship.
I ran past this memorial when we were in Auckland when we were there a few years ago. I don't know if Green Peace has any more ships, but Sea Shepard does. The Steve Irwin is officially retired now, and I saw it anchored in New Castle I think it is used as a classroom or museum. I am sure this ship could tell some great stories from when it trying to stop all the whaling.
