SteamOS Adoption Beyond the Steam Deck
SteamOS, known for its Linux-based structure and optimization for gaming, has been exclusive to the Steam Deck since its release in 2022. However, a report from Gaming on Linux indicates that other handheld consoles may soon run SteamOS. Devices equipped with the operating system are expected to carry the label "Powered by SteamOS." Valve has already included a visual representation of this logo in its official guide.
The guide elaborates on the branding:
"The Powered by SteamOS logo indicates that a hardware device will run SteamOS and boot into SteamOS when powered on. Partners/manufacturers will ship hardware with a Steam image in the format provided by and/or developed in close collaboration with Valve. No physical changes should be made to the logo, and it must not be combined with any other branding elements."
This official seal aims to ensure a seamless user experience across devices, highlighting Valve's involvement in optimizing the system for each piece of hardware.
