Sony has consistently downplayed the possibility of PS3 emulation on the PS5. In prior statements, the company claimed that such emulation would be “computationally too heavy” for the console. Instead, PS3 games are currently accessible only through the PlayStation Plus Premium subscription, which relies on cloud streaming rather than local emulation.
The streaming option, however, has its drawbacks. For one, it limits access to certain regions, such as Brazil, where the PlayStation Plus Premium tier is unavailable. Additionally, the quality and experience of streaming often fall short of running games natively.
Lowest Logan’s demonstration challenges Sony’s claims, showing that emulation via the RPCS3 software is feasible and doesn’t place as much computational strain on the PS5 as previously suggested.
