I started using Instragram and posting stuff about crypto on Instagram. I keep getting messages from different users(but they are all sending the same message) see screenshot below:
This is what the message that they all sent me looked like:
First I thought this was a message to try and get me to sign up for BitMex with a referral link, I know Kucoin and Binance rewards users for signing up new users, but this didn't seem to be the case. The message promoted the following:(It was promoting @Bitmex_Promo
If you click on @Bitmex_Promo it loads this page:
I then checked the site on threatcrowd and a few other threat intel sites and it seemed clean:

So I decided to be brave and open up the link, but first I tried this in the CLI, this site does some interesting stuff, if I had more time I would've liked to figure out how they do this.
Finally I opened it with Brave browser with Tor:
bitmexpromo.com redirects to: https://www.bitmex.com/register/DIwWmu
TLDR this is referral spamming and Bitmex should probably not recognize these referrals. That being said I'm not from the "Cyber Police":
