I've been meaning to watch this in the next few days so I will admit that I skipped a lot of what you wrote... i'll come back to it later
I think Mark Ruffalo got typecast again in this movie as he plays the detective with issues who hunts the robber
I believe that Ruffalo is much more problematic than just this. From what I have read he is generally difficult to work with and he is kind of box office cancer right now as well because there is a large segment of people that won't go see anything that he is in...just because he is in it. This is because of his outspoken political views and not much else. Well, a little bit something else I guess - he's in too many things.
At its current pace it is going to lose a ton of money too (not that this matters much in Hollywood) because it had a near $100 million budget it looks very unlikely to make it to the $160 milion or so point just to break even.
