The Jinx Game
Hello all, lately in my city we have developed a game which has been fun, so I thought I'd write down the rules here in a post, to formalize it, and explain some of the rules and corner cases.
First, there is a base game you play, which selects some winner. Typically I do a simple number guessing game, where I pick a number in a range, like 1-300, and people submit numbers in the range. The person with the closest number wins, and this is called a "Normal Win".
Everyone always provides a number in the range, but on top of that, they may optionally perform another action. The first of these actions is The Jinx. You pick one person and Jinx them, so if they win normally, you can steal the win for yourself, and this becomes a Jinx Win.
Along with your guess number, you may create a shield. The shield is against anyone, so you don't need to provide a name. The shield protects you from being Jinxed.
Along with your guess number, you may Meta Jinx one person. A Meta Jinx can steal a Jinx Win, becoming a Meta Jinx win. A Meta Jinx win cannot be stolen again.
Also, Meta Jinx can steal a win from a shielded person, if this happens, it becomes a Normal Win (which could be Jinxed). Note that a Meta Jinx cannot steal a Normal Win from an unshielded person.
If you guess the number exactly, then you are immune from Jinxing and Meta Jinxing.
If multiple people are equally close to the correct number, then the person who submitted first will be the normal winner, if I can't tell, I may just flip a coin for it.
If multiple people are jinxing or Meta Jinxing the same person, then I will select the one with the closest number to succeed.
If you Jinx or Meta Jinx yourself, you forfeit the game and lose.
You can only perform one action: just a number, shielded number, jinx or Meta Jinx. Attempting multiple actions or the same action on multiple people forfeits the match.
I could make this game even more complicated by adding Meta Shield, Dragon Jinxing, Mega Jinxing or Mega shielding, other wierd ideas.
This is probably something I should turn into an NFT game and make city cards. How fun.
