After the failure of most remakes, Hollywood has resorted to straight up rereleasing the same films. That ought to save on development costs, for certain.
It's an honest move, in a way. The remakes were never about telling a better story. They were about cashing in on a name people already knew. Rereleasing the original just cuts out the middleman.
