Finding our place in this world is possibly one of the most difficult tasks each person must undertake. You have to look for where you can excel, contribute, or perhaps simply enjoy yourself. The important thing is that you yourself feel you have found your place. If we only follow the expectations of others, we may never truly find it. That's why we must be decisive and have our own vision of what we want. Mateo finds himself in a similar dilemma; he must resolve it, but he can only achieve it if he truly strives and perseveres. Let's see.
Mateo has been playing drums for quite some time. Every time he thinks back to when he started playing, it seems like it was yesterday, but it's actually been about twelve and a half years. He has practically played nonstop throughout his youth. In all that time, he has had many adventures and several opportunities to play at important events. In his hometown, he is considered a good drummer. But despite all the experience, the opportunities he has had, and the expectations and opinions others have of him, he is not completely happy.
It's true he's achieved a lot, but he's had a bitter feeling for quite some time now. He believes he hasn't found his place in music. It's as if he's doing something within the realm he enjoys, but it's not what he loves most. There's a clear explanation for this.

He grew up listening to 90s music, specifically rock and the early bands that truly invented the genre. He's from that generation. He was always drawn to drums; they were his favorite thing about rock from that era. Some say the guitar is the most interesting and noteworthy element, but for him, it's the drums, and he's always championed that. So, when he was old enough, he bought a drum set and started learning until he mastered it. And that's how it all began. He formed a small band with some classmates, but it didn't last long. Then he was in one group, then another, and so on until he joined a band he was in until recently.
In this band, he finally got to stand out a bit, and it was where he stayed the longest. But there was a problem: this band isn't rock. It plays contemporary music. But since he was tired of touring so much, he ended up staying with it. But at a cost: he had to give up his beloved genre, rock. The pressure from his new band and his friends made him stay. And so time passed, and we've arrived almost at today. After many years with them, he's reconsidering everything, and it's said that he hasn't found his place in music or in this world.
Although he's endured quite a bit, he feels he has an inner energy that could only be channeled into the other genre he loves. So many years playing calmer music have turned him into a kind of drum, accumulating energy but never using it. Now he feels he can't go on. He feels bad for not having pursued his initial goal and for not having taken action.

It's true that those 12 years as a drummer hadn't been in vain, but he felt he needed a change. So he left his band, despite everyone's objections. It was a very difficult decision; he had fans in that group, a well-established persona, and a stable life. Changing all that to pursue an old goal wasn't child's play; it was a very serious decision. But when what matters is your happiness and finding your place in this world, it's worth it.
After leaving the band, it took him several months to find a rock band that needed a drummer. He had to live off his savings in the meantime. So he had to sacrifice things he used to do to hold out until he found work again. But in the end, he succeeded and found a band. Of course, it wasn't a very famous band, nor did he have many fans there, but he could be who he always wanted to be. With sacrifices, but now he's where he belongs in this world.
