Starting out in music always has its challenges, and no one can say it's easy. For some, it's even more complicated, due to a combination of different situations and problems that lead to an even more difficult beginning. A perfect example of this is Derek, who still remembers his start in the industry with great sadness. For him, it was more difficult than any bad thing he could have ever imagined. It was so hard that he often thought about giving up; perhaps it wasn't for him, maybe he had chosen the wrong path.

Back then, he was a young man eager to sing and achieve everything he set his mind to. He had been longing for that moment to finally arrive. And when it did, it wasn't what he expected. He debuted at a party, where all his friends and many acquaintances would be. The party was just for having a good time, not to celebrate anything in particular. He took advantage of this opportunity to introduce himself to everyone.

The DJ introduced him and said that he would speak. All his friends were surprised because none of them knew what he was actually going to do. When he said he was going to sing, they were all very impressed, as they didn't know he had that talent. So the atmosphere immediately became tense; they were all staring at him, waiting for him to sing.

Derek had practiced the song many times, and it was his favorite, so he knew it very well. In his mind, he always imagined that first moment as masterful, that everything would go perfectly. But when he was in front of everyone, seeing their attentive gazes, he became frightened. He had the floor and was standing on the platform. If he backed down and didn't do what he had said, it would be a huge embarrassment, and they would laugh at him. In the end, he was brave and continued with the performance despite his fear and nerves.

He started off brilliantly, and it was clear he had great talent, but his nerves quickly got the better of him, and his voice began to tremble. Of course, that was noticeable and shattered the illusion of the performance he had wanted to create. He managed to finish the song, but with great difficulty; his nerves got the better of him. Those who heard him were divided; some considered him talented, and others thought it was no good. The worst part was that the negative criticism was delivered coldly; “That’s not for you” was one of the comments.

That was his first real contact with people actually listening. He could already see that he lacked a lot of preparation and that it wouldn’t be as easy as he thought. And he was right. A few months later, he tried to take things to another level. He released his first original song, which turned out well, but it was still clear that he was an emerging singer without complete control of his voice. People online are often crueler than your friends, and that’s what happened. Many told him they liked it, but a large number considered the song to be of no quality whatsoever.

Those comments were harsher, and they made him feel really bad. At that point, he started to think that maybe it was true, maybe it wasn't for him. But before deciding anything, he decided to try one more time to see what would happen. This time, he approached a music label to help him finance his future musical projects. But when the label heard his only song and tested his voice in a studio, they gave him a cold, negative verdict. "You have talent, but we're not sure you can make the most of it." So they rejected a partnership with him.

And the same thing happened with several others. It was as if the universe was trying to tell him to give up on music, that it wasn't for him. And yes, he even felt that it was true. But once again, as he always had, he decided to get up before surrendering, because no one can write their own story, so he had to change the ending they wanted to write for him. That's why he continued alone, without funding, without friends, and without many believing in him. It was a really tough start.

All the effort was worth it because later, with his savings, he managed to produce several songs. Little by little, he overcame his shyness and became more comfortable performing on stage. And after that difficult start, he achieved great success with his music and many people believed in him. He succeeded because from the very beginning, despite the initial difficulties, he didn't give up and he never plans to.
