I've not long since got home from a successful visit to the local woods with @fastchrisuk loaded with cameras, tripods, flash stands, flashes and gels.
I've also eaten a late tea of pizza and beer so have a very pleasant beer buzz at the moment. Just mentioning that in case any of the following doen't make any sense or the spelling is less than coherent!
All of the below images were shot in one Photographic exposure (These are NOT a Photoshop creations).
I'm going to add the following image first as its a little different in that the beam of light is a series of dashes, hence the title. Its almost impossible to explain how I got these without giving the game away of how the image was created, and I want to keep that secret in tact.
The shot however was shot with an 8mm fish eye lens, backlit with an orange gelled torch and 2 blue gelled Godox Flash guns.
Circling back to the start of the evening, the following is a basic setup shot to check the alignment of the camera with the flash guns to reduce any unwanted light bleeding into the shot. I'm including it too as its a little eerie..
Next we have an image that I wanted to take where there was no silhouette or figure (Usually me) holding the torch. This freed me up to run up and down turning the torch on and changing aperture mid exposure, so I'm very pleased with this one..
Next are the setup shots for the Morse Code Whisperer. These were testing the position of the torch I was holding for best effect as well as the lighting position and gels. I included these too as I felt they were good shots in their own right. I hope you agree..
Finally just before we were due to packup, I wanted to setup and shot the following shot, looking at the perspective down the hill rather than up. Granted it wasn't that much different but this was a good exercise on flash position as I toyed with the flash behind the camera instead of infront, but the colour scheme looked like the camera had been wearing cardboard 3D glasses that you get at the cinema. In the end I put the flash further down the embankment shooting up towards the camera. Maybe it was an obvious choice, but it was worth testing, just to prove I was wrong initially..
As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75
Thanks very much for looking
