Due to the amount of images I took on this visit I've decided to split this into two posts. The site itself was a photoraphers sweet shop of images, and the 2+ hours we were in there just flew by. I could have spent longer but will admit I was conscious we shouldn't have been there. I probably ought to put a disclaimer here too that we were very careful where we trod and even refused to go into some rooms if we thought the floor wouldn't hold our weight. By no means was this a safe location and we were very aware of our surroundings at all times.
Over the weekend @fastchrisuk and yself were lucky enough to go into 2 locations that we hadn't been in before, which is always really exciting to discover new places. The first was the WW2 bunker that we had found that enabled us to lightpaint in the day, and the second was an abandoned building in Sheffield. I won't give the name or location out.
To gain entry we had to climb through a hole in the wall from an abandoned building next door to the site, which could have created some interesting images if I'd been so inclined, but once in, and down a short incline of bricks, we were into the old building. I don't know what it had been used for previously but it was some kind of manufacturing site with offices attached. After walking through some outer rooms I discovered the below, a room with a view..
From here we then went through to some other buildings and up the following stairs..
Which led to a platform where we entered the following room where time literally stood still. It was like walking into the Victorian era. We were lucky too in that the lighting was realy sympathetic to the surroundings, giving light and dark shades to add to the ambience.
We could have gone further too but some of the floors were a little sketchy..
And in places the floor wasn't even there at all!
The next room we went into had a large table surrounded by cupboards where the workers had various numbers chalked on them, whether measurements or calculations we'll never know..
From here we headed downstairs to another dark room with another somewhat sketchy floor..
..this then led to an out door section, but I will continue this in a second post.
Thank you very much for reading so far and I hope you'll come back for the second part. This was a fanastic urbex location and I'm looking forward to heading back hopefully next weekend.
As a photographer I try to mix what I do in my shots, I've done still life, some macro work, lightpainting and I enjoy a good model shoot. If you'd like to check out any of my other work I'm on Facebook, or you can find me on Instagram under neilru75
