Art Collaboration with Kate @art.life | Vlog # 25

Hey friends,

Today I am really excited to be sharing this video. It's a collaborative video with Kate @art.life. She is a fellow artist and dtubedaily member and it has been really lovely to get to know her during my time here on Steemit.

Although this collaboration couldn't happen in person, we have set the intention that one day we will meet in real life and hopefully create some amazing art together. In the meantime, I am thankful for this platform for connecting me with like minded humans from all over the globe.

The theme that our pieces are based on are star signs created in monochrome. Kate spoke about her signs in a recent video which is what sparked the idea. I suggested we work in monochrome using each other's favourite colour as this is something I've never really done before and found that it be a good challenge.

Kate's sun sign is Leo and her moon sign is Cancer. Sun signs dictate your personality whilst moon signs dictate your emotions and inner mood. In my experience, most Leo's I have encountered either have a very striking face or voluminous hair which always reminds me of the lion.

I kept the piece simple and stuck with what I knew and that happened to be lady portraits. I chose to depict Kate's hair similar to that of a lions mane as she often wears her lovely hair down. The hands represent the element of Cancer which is water. Water signs are often based heavily in emotions. Sometimes this can be perceived as a challenging trait but I think there is a grace about being able to fully feel and experience emotions. Not just the emotions of the individual but also of those around them. The hands have a soft and gentle nature which reminds me a lot of Kate.

I really wanted to keep this piece mostly in salmon pink and monochrome but I really struggle with tying a piece together without using a black fine liner. I've accepted that this is just apart of my style.

Overall I am happy with how this came to be, I was initially a little nervous but I actually had a lot of fun with it!
