Everyone is debating "Do we have free will?"
Me: looks at my life in Lagos...I think my free will expires every time my mama calls 😂
3 places where my "free will" disappeared:
Career choice: Me: "I want to study Mass Comm"
Mama: "Doctor or nothing. Free will can wait."
Result: I’m now the family’s “future nurse” by force.
Clothes: Me: "I like this ripped jeans"
Society: "Na only wayward girls wear that."
Result: Jeans stayed in shop. Reputation won.
Marriage age: Me: "I’m still young, I want to build first"
Aunties at church: "Age is not on your side, my dear"
Result: Pressure > Preference.
So do we really have free will? Or do we just have "free will within conditions"? Laws, culture, family, money... they all vote before we do.
So I want to know:
Where did you LAST feel your free will was tested?
School? Work? Family? Relationship?
Drop your story below. Let’s see if anyone’s free will is still 100% intact 😂 I need hope.
Note:This is my personal reflection as a learner in Nigeria. I respect all views on philosophy vs culture.
