I discovered John Martyn in the 80's, with Glorious Fool, at first I really liked that voice that I heard on the radio on a record where he was produced and accompanied by Phil Collins. I looked up other recordings of his and noticed that he was a performer who in addition to his distinctive voice was a very sensitive songwriter. I had no idea he was a great representative of British Folk Rock. For me he is one of the most intimate artists I have ever heard and I think his genius was belatedly recognized. Solid Air is an excellent recording in which soul, jazz and blues come together. On the album, his guitar playing technique stands out, especially on the song I'd Rather Be The Devil. You have a jewel in your hands.
