The Victors

Real Madrid bested PSG last night with an amazing 3 - 1 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu even though Adrian Rabiot gave PSG a lead in the 33rd minute.

Analysis

Looking at Real Madrid's current form in La Liga a lot of spectators were waiting for another draw/defeat at the bernabeu, especially at the hands of PSG who are soon to become champions in the French league, often beating their enemies with more than a 5 goal margin. So what went wrong yesterday?

As many of us know yesterdays game was very important and had put a lot of pressure on my main man Zidane, Real Madrid's manager, but the pressure was lifted when Ronaldo scored a second on the 83rd minute followed by a goal only 3 minutes later, courtesy Marcelo's spectacular half volley making the scoreline 3 goals to 1, somewhere PSG found very had to bounce back from.

Marcelo and Isco were definitely the highlight of yesterdays match as their sheer dedication and work rate on the pitch made them impossible to mark by their counterparts who were more often than not left for dead on the quick Madrid counters. Thiago Silva's absence in the defence proved vital and allowed for spaces and gaps to increase in the PSG defence as the game went on.

Now I know all of you want me to talk about the main three for PSG namely, Neymar, Cavani and Mbappe who were seeming much more lethal than the Real Madrid trio at the start of the game. However, theres not much to comment here as not anyone of them got on the scoresheet. The first PSG goal was scored due to Mbappe's brilliance on the wing but he was absent since there on out, maybe a lack of experience for the youngster at only 18 years of age. Neymar made a few interesting dribbles and boosts across the field but he was always, mostly sooner rather than later, caught by one of Real Madrids men who were doing a great job marking him. Cavani, well, didn't get more than 5 minutes off the ball collectively so a much better performance is expected out of him in the second leg.

The Boss

I have been a CR7 fan for as far as I can remember and watching tonights match I hold no doubt in my mind that he's currently the best player in the world. Now hold on Messi fans, I know what you're thinking. And trust me I know how you feel. Messi is perhaps the best dribbler/playmaker this world has ever seen. He can not only score brilliant goals but can lay off some beautiful opportunities for his teammates. Now as far as Ronaldo is concerned, the machine himself, is perhaps the best goal scoring machine this world has ever seen. A lot of speculation was going on around Ronaldo's bad season but it doesn't take a forensic analysis to see that he still has more goals this season than Luis Suarez from Barcelona. Hence, his reign as king is far from over. Scoring a penalty first with extreme power (beat the keeper even though he guessed the right way) and then scoring with his thigh showed not only his goal scoring prowess but class and fines from a player who's career is far from over.

The second leg dilemma

Going forward if theres one thing that can be said for certain is that Zidane and his team will enter Paris with extreme confidence, their two goal lead would give them sufficient courage to just pass the ball around and one away goal would be enough for them to secure the next spot in the champions league. Playing in Paris, however, won't be as easy as last night though since its unchartered territory. Hopefully though, the tactics would work and the players would perform the same if not better in the second leg to win this years Champions League again.

Even though nobody believes it, Real is still, for me, this years top contender to win the Champions League.
